Be selective alongside author and poet, Philip Krummrich, at CoffeeTree Books on Dec. 2 at 5:00 p.m. as he reads from his new book, Selected Poems. The reading will be followed by a meet & greet and signing.Selected Poems consists of the poems he likes best from over 50 years of writing poems. It features classical forms (sonnets and a sestina), free verse, various other meters, and some whimsical pieces he calls “wrymes.” There is a parody of Eliot’s “Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock,” and another of Robert Frost’s “Fire and Ice.” Since most of his scholarly and creative work has centered on translation, the book includes English versions of some of his favorite pieces from other languages. In short, there is a wide variety of poetry in the volume, and everyone who takes a close look will find something to enjoy.
Philip Krummrich began scribbling verses during his high school years; fortunately, no copies of those juvenile productions have survived. He continued to work on creative writing in various forms while pursuing an academic career, and found his niche translating works in various genres, primarily from Portuguese and Spanish into English. A number of the poems in this volume have been published elsewhere, and three have won prizes, but most of his original work has been produced in isolation, and almost all the pieces included in the reading have never been read or heard by anyone else.
