About this Event
Poet and journalist Adolfo Guzman-Lopez, co-founder of the Taco Shop Poets and reporter for LAist, will lead a workshop and reading centered on his new book, California Southern: writing from the road, 1992–2025, which reflects on his life as a Mexican-American and his mother’s work cleaning homes in San Diego. The workshop invites participants whose family members did domestic work to write about their experiences and share their pieces in a community reading.

Adolfo Guzman-Lopez grew up in Tijuana, National City, and Pacific Beach. In 1994 he co-founded the Taco Shop Poets at the Centro Cultural de la Raza. He’s currently a reporter at LAist in Los Angeles. His first collection of writing includes stories about all that, it’s called California Southern: writing from the road, 1992-2025. It’s published by Hinchas de Poesia Press. Adolfo lives in Long Beach with his family.
