Welcome back to another year of Spoken Word loveliness! For January's feature Talisman Spoken Word is delighted to welcome The Red Poets. The Red Poets is a collective and magazine that promotes left-wing poetry, originating from the political group Cymru Goch, and has been influential in bringing poetry to working-class communities. The Red Poets collective was established as part of the political group Cymru Goch (Red Wales), which was active from 1987 to 2002. The group aimed to combine poetry with political activism, focusing on issues relevant to working-class communities. The first issue of the Red Poets magazine was intended to be a one-off publication but has since evolved into an annual magazine that has produced over 30 issues.
The latest issue features a number of Swansea poets including Rebecca Lowe, Rhoda Thomas , Peter Thabit Jones, Xavier Panades i Blas, Gabriela Gatica, ,Dave Hughes & Mike Everly. The issue is dedicated to the memory of Patrick Dobbs & Tim Evans and begins with poems by the two of them.
Our usual Spoken Word Open Mic follows. All are welcome, whether you're a complete newbie who has never shared your word before or a seasoned Talisman regular. Sign up on the door from 7pm for a prompt 7.30pm start. Can't wait to see and hear you!
