About this Event
Culver City Residents for Peace and Village Well are proud to bring to you Poetry and Prose for Peace, a night celebrating Refaat Alareer and other Palestinian authors. Join us for heartfelt readings of poems and short stories that will show us the searing realities of Gaza and the West Bank.
Attendees are welcome to bring a piece that has resonated with them or one they've written themselves as we explore a new literature of resistance.
About Refaat Alareer
Killed by an Israeli airstrike last December, Refaat Alareer – the poet, the father, the professor, the storyteller - once said, “Palestine is not a distant concept but a living, breathing reality that is constantly shaped and reshaped by the stories and actions of us, its people.” Palestine may feel like a far-off place but to many Americans who are heartbroken over the daily growing number of killed Palestinians including 17,000 children, Palestine symbolizes the resistance to colonial empire and its overreaching military industrial complex. Refaat Alareer is revered as one of the preeminent voices of the Palestinian people.
