Please join us for a special Wednesday triple feature edition of our monthly open mic and featured poetry reading series Poetorium Too at TidePool Bookshop (located at 372 Chandler Street in Worcester, MA) on June 24th from 5 pm to 7 pm hosted by Paul Szlosek and (hopefully) Ron Whittle. It will be a full two hours of poetry and spoken word featuring 20 minute readings each by poets Sue Scott, Fred Gerhard, and Aliveah Stoddard, followed by the passing of a hat to pay our features, a short intermission, and then an open mic with 5-minute slots for each reader if time allows (in order to fit everything planned into our allotted time, if the event runs too long, readers may be restricted to one poem).Susan R. Scott has been creatively writing her whole life. Her ability was recognized early on by her teachers who unexpectedly presented her with a creative writing award at graduation. And though she did not pursue writing as a career, she did not let her gift go to waste. Over the years, she has been encouraged by many to publish her work, but the timing just didn’t seem right to her — until 2019 when she published the first of her five inspirational nonfiction books. In 2022, Sue was invited by a friend to an open mic poetry event, just to listen. As soon as she walked in the door, she thought to herself: These are my people. She was hooked. Since then, she has had pieces published in four different anthologies. But her latest publication, On Your Way ~ Poems to Love By, which compassionately highlights the plight of displaced people, is an offering of mostly her poetry, with some pieces included by the others who ministered with her to the homeless here in Worcester. Her hope as an author is always that the words and ideas she shares will resonate and encourage her readers as much as they minister to her as she writes them.
Fred Gerhard, author of Drifting to “Hello” and Lilacs Still Bloom in Ashburnham, has been widely published in magazines. He’s an editor at Smoky Quartz and Quabbin Quills, and a co-founder of the New Dawn Writers’ Group. In 2026 he is reading poems from his mother, Rena Gerhard’s posthumously published book, The Loving: Selected Poems.
Aliveah Stoddard is a self-published poet, author, promoter, and small business consultant residing in central Massachusetts, whose poetry is known for exploring themes of resilience, emotional healing, and personal growth. Her self-published poetry collections, Sound Resilience: The Collected Works of A. Stoddard, and Chasing Roses, center on overcoming life's struggles and finding one's own voice. Aliveah also runs Ali Mac Marketing, a Connecticut-based firm providing full-service marketing, business restructuring, and growth strategy for small businesses. She describes poetry as a form of therapy and encourages other young creators to believe in their work and continue writing.
