About this Event
*This session is fully funded - there is no cost to attend. Places are limited.*
Curious about podcasting but not sure it's for you? It's more accessible than you think - and this session will show you how to get started.
Podcasting is one of the most effective things an SME can do to build trust and get their expertise heard. But where to begin? This session is about knowing what to say, being consistent, and different ways of getting started.
This half-day is built for SME founders and leaders who want honest, practical answers. You'll hear from people who've done it, think through what a podcast could genuinely mean for your business, and then actually record something usable in a well-equipped studio.
What the session covers
- Why podcasting works particularly well for smaller businesses — and where it often goes wrong
- A real founder's story: Russ Haworth shares how he built The Family Business Podcast and what he'd do differently
- What makes a podcast idea sustainable — and spotting when it might need refreshing
- Generating episode ideas you could realistically record in the next month
- Time in a well-equipped recording studio: you'll record, hear yourself back, and leave with something usable
Getting hands-on
We're using the studio at the Firepool Centre for Digital Innovation in Taunton, more accessible and better equipped than most people realise, to give you real recording experience in a supported environment.
Who's leading the session
The Somerset Innovation Hub is hosting the session, with support from two experts:
Russ Haworth, The Family Business Podcast — sharing what it really takes to build a business podcast with a loyal audience
Steve Hindley, iNarrator — business podcast specialist, guiding you through the studio and helping you find your voice on the mic
You'll leave with:
- A clear picture of whether podcasting is the right move for your business right now
- A shortlist of episode ideas grounded in your actual expertise
- Recorded audio you've made yourself — in a real studio, with real support
- Honest input on what it takes to make a podcast work long-term
Who this is for:
SME founders, directors and senior leaders who are serious about building their profile, reaching new audiences, or deepening relationships with existing ones — and who want to explore podcasting as a practical tool.
No technical knowledge needed. No podcast experience required. Just bring your curiosity and an idea or two about what you might want to talk about.
