Una cocinera tradicional de Puebla compartirá su experiencia culinaria para ofrecer una muestra de su legendario mole poblano. Acompáñenos a una tarde de narración con sabor. Este programa se presenta en conjunto con La Feria de los Moles. El festival del mole es el único evento en Los Ángeles que conserva la esencia de los platillos y la tradición prehispánica. Esta clase se impartirá en español.
Doña Mago, Cocinera tradicional
María Margarita Villegas Leal, mejor conocida como “Mago”, nació el 18 de enero de 1967 en Tlatlauquitepec, Puebla. Heredera del amor por la cocina de su madre, abuela y bisabuela, ha dedicado más de 30 años a preservar y difundir la gastronomía tradicional poblana, en especial el mole, los chiles en nogada y los tlayoyos.
Reconocida como Cocinera Tradicional por el Conservatorio Gastronómico Nacional de México, Mago ha representado con orgullo a su comunidad en eventos municipales, estatales, nacionales e internacionales, incluyendo la Feria de los Moles en Los Ángeles y Nueva York.
Además de ofrecer sus platillos en los tianguis de Tlatlauquitepec y Teziutlán, abre las puertas de su hogar para compartir talleres con turistas, enseñando a elaborar tortillas, gorditas, tlayoyos y el emblemático mole. Su vida también está ligada al cuidado de las flores, tradición heredada de su madre, con las que ha obtenido reconocimientos por su dedicación y esmero.
Mujer de raíces, de humo y de sueños, Mago es hoy un símbolo de identidad y orgullo, representante de la cocina poblana y sus tradiciones ante el mundo.

A cocinera tradicional from the state Puebla will share her food journey to provide a taste of her legendary mole poblano. Please join us for an afternoon of storytelling con sabor. This program is presented in conjunction with La Feria de los Moles. The Mole festival is the only event in Los Angeles which preserves the essence of the pre-Hispanic dishes and tradition. This class will be conducted in Spanish.
Doña Mago, Traditional Cook
María Margarita Villegas Leal, better known as “Mago,” was born on January 18, 1967, in Tlatlauquitepec, Puebla. Inheriting her mother’s, grandmother’s, and great-grandmother’s love of cooking, she has dedicated more than 30 years to preserving and promoting traditional Puebla cuisine, especially mole, chiles en nogada, and tlayoyos.
Recognized as a Traditional Cook by the National Gastronomic Conservatory of Mexico, Mago has proudly represented her community at municipal, state, national, and international events, including the Moles Fair in Los Angeles and New York.
In addition to offering her dishes at the markets in Tlatlauquitepec and Teziutlán, she opens her home to share workshops with tourists, teaching them how to make tortillas, gorditas, tlayoyos, and the iconic mole. Her life is also tied to caring for flowers, a tradition inherited from her mother, for which she has earned recognition for her dedication and care.
A woman of roots, spirit, and dreams, Mago is today a symbol of identity and pride, representing Puebla’s cuisine and its traditions to the world.
