About Susan Casbarro: Susan Nanna Casbarro is an award-winning mixed media mosaicist. She was raised in a setting where everyone valued and participated in the visual and performing arts, including sculpture, painting, music, dance, jewelry making, script and song writing, Japanese brush work and puppetry, among other areas.
From the age of 5 she was performing in marionette shows with her family in malls and at charity events. Susan was born and raised in New York and currently resides in Florida. She is a teacher by heart and occupation (middle school Math).
Upon retirement she poured all of her passion into her artwork and set up the Glistening Glass Studio where she creates her own pieces and shares the art of mosaics with her students.
She began exhibiting in 2018 in local and national galleries. Susan is a member of the Broward Art Guild, National League of American PEN women, SAMA-Society of American Mosaic Artists and is the Treasurer of the Weston Art Guild. “When creating I feel the flow of movement in my mind and in my dreams, then out it comes through my fingers to the glass and on to the substrate. Over the years I have gone where the flow has guided me from steppingstones to picassiette (cracked dishes) to jewelry to wall art to alcohol inks, collage and functional art such as serving trays. The exposure to various fields of art in my youth was formative in this process.
Lately, due to my math background and love of nature, I have been heavily involved with Sacred Geometry and Nature’s Bounty – the spiritual meaning of various shapes and natural elements, which create internal harmony as well as harmony between ourselves and the natural world. Through this process I have begun incorporating geometric shapes, fossils, crystals and gemstones into my work. Particular attention has been spent on the use of specific colors that relate to the purpose and feeling of the piece. All of which bring a special meaning to the work. Mosaics create a method to bring all facets of oneself together, while still highlighting the individual parts.”
