About this Event
Join Us for a Plotly Community Gathering!
TL;DR: Join us on Tuesday May 12th from 1 PM- 10 PM at Apna Chulha (550 Valencia Street) or 10 PM - 2 AM for a Plotly community gathering, release of Plotly Studio, and celebration of ten years of Plotly open-source software. Hosted by Plotly CEO Jim McIntosh, Cofounders Chris Parmer, Alex Johnson, & Matt Sundquist, and VP of Customer Success Chelsea Douglas.
🎂 A decade celebration. Plotly’s Python, R, and JavaScript libraries have now been freely available as open-source software for a decade. To celebrate a decade of innovation, collaboration, and community, we invite you to join us for a drop-by day of food, drinks, and music. We’ll hear from friends and leaders in data science, open-source, and policy. We’ll hear from partners who have been part of our journey. We’ll reflect on the past, explore new horizons, and appreciate the community that has made it all possible.
🦸🏻♀️ Data science has given us new superpowers. We can organize, analyze, and understand billions of data points in seconds; visualize patterns, the microscopic, and unseen; and model and predict reality, truth, and nature. Plotly has been part of this revolution, empowering anyone—from middle school math students to world-class scientists to the majority of Fortune 500 companies that use Plotly—with collaborative tools to turn data into insight. We’ve made these superpowers accessible to all. Plotly has had substantial adoption.
🎢 Plotly’s libraries have been downloaded 538 million times.
🌟 Plotly’s 225 repositories have a combined 100K+ GitHub stars.
🏅 88K GitHub projects use Dash &
🚀 Plotly.py gets 2 million downloads a day.
🌠 Plotly’s open-source projects have thousands of contributors.
🛠️ Free, cloud, & open-source products. Our goal has always been to empower everyone with world-class tools to collaboratively analyze and visualize data. We share many of our libraries and code as free and open-source software. Anyone can use Plotly code in their personal projects, commercial products, or other open-source projects. We love that people have extended Plotly into other languages like Ruby, .net, F#, Mathematica, Julia, MATLAB, Rust, Go, Perl, Haskell, Elixir, Scala, Node, PHP, and Clojure. Open-source tools grow the ecosystem and expand access to data visualization. We will hear from various open-source leaders during the day.
🔐 Enterprise, desktop, & AI products. We also offer Dash Enterprise with private, internal, and secure hosting; database connections; and identity management. Plotly Studio and Plotly Cloud now combine everything we’re doing, believe in, and have built. We’ll demo it throughout the day: https://plotly.com/studio/.
👥 We believe in open-source. Open-source is a proven way to build better products. It means more people can help detect and fix bugs. Open-source enables wider contributions, broadens perspectives, and covers more use cases. We can understand and trust open-source code. It seems to be in the best interest of society for data and software to be publicly studied and collectively built. Open-source transparency and trust can build trust in areas that impact safety, society, ecology, and our collective well-being. Open-source is also a fun, communitarian, and empowering way to build software. It fosters creativity, collaboration, and a shared sense of purpose among developers and users alike.
