Plein Public will transform the Piet Heynsplein in Rotterdam-Delfshaven into a vibrant meeting place full of free concerts, theatre performances, workshops, and more. On Friday 29 May and 5 June, GROUNDS will make sure you start the weekend dancing. And are you curious about Plein Public’s full programme? Then have a look here!NANA BENZ DU TOGO
Nana Benz Du Togo is a five-piece band from Togo that blends voodoo traditions with electro, soul, and afrobeat. The result is an infectious burst of energy that will drag you onto the dance floor without mercy and make you lose track of time.
The band is named after a group of influential women from Togo who gained fame in the 1970s by selling African wax prints. And you can hear that reflected in the music of Nana Benz Du Togo, which sounds just as colourful, humorous and empowering. The five members operate like the five fingers of a hand. Ready to make a fist and strike powerfully. But also to caress you gently with softness and grace.
Armed with nothing more than their voices, PVC pipes, drums made from recycled materials and a vintage Korg keyboard, they create a sound that is both raw and danceable. Their live shows are nothing short of spiritual – a mix of ancestral energy and modern spark that has sent thousands of people into a trance on stages across Europe. After their amazing performance at North Sea Jazz last year, they are now ready to set GROUNDS on fire.

LAS HIENAS
Danceable Latin American rhythms, joyful energy and above all a lot of girl power: this is the successful formula Las Hienas are steadily working their way up with. This fascinating all-female band of eight musicians, based in Rotterdam, has been committed since its formation in January 2023 to creating a powerful counter-movement within the music industry by performing both works by female composers and their own music.
Their eclectic musical palette includes Afro-Cuban beats, contemporary salsa, Andean folk, traditional Caribbean rhythms, and the rich influences of Jazz. The same vibe comes through on their brand-new EP, *Nuestro Mundo*, which they premiered earlier this year at GROUNDS. Las Hienas’ performances are electrifying and full of energy, and have already got audiences dancing in the Netherlands and Germany and at various festivals such as Días Latinos, North Sea Jazz Festival and Karneval der Kulturen (Berlin).
