What is LA Ofrenda?
LA Ofrenda is a story of sacrifice and creation; a multimedia Aztec dance performance – converging traditional dances, cosmology, light, video and neo-Mesoamerican regalia – to introduce the Aztec creation story of the 5th Sun. LA Ofrenda strives to embody cultural equity by offering Los Angeles a deeper appreciation of its rich Mexican heritage through a unique perspective on Danza. It provides a meaningful opportunity to celebrate the individuals and families who keep these vibrant traditions alive.
Fallen Warriors: Seeds in Bloom Altar Installation
Coupled with LA Ofrenda, Fallen Warriors: Seeds in Bloom is a collaborative ofrenda (altar) – that honors individuals who fiercely defended essential elements of Life, created collaboratively by members of Danza Divina de Los Angeles (Indigital Productions). Much like seeds breaking through the soil, kissed by the life-giving rays, the altar reminds the lessons of the giants who came before us—those who stood as pillars for humanity.
Through this ofrenda, the participating danzantes and contributors pay tribute to those who have stood up for humanity and defended the natural forces that sustain us. Each element of the altar reflects our deep respect for these guardians, celebrating their contributions to preserving our humanity by demonstrating integrity. The public is encouraged to sit or stand in the center of the altar and absorb the healing power of memory– a moment to remember that we too are made of the elements.
