Adolescents (and Adults!)
Presenter, Dr. LeAnne Steen, PhD, Founding Director of the lOyola University Play Therapy Center
In this presentation, Dr. Steen will use a mix of experiential play therapy activities and lecture to help participants understand how play therapy is a trauma informed practice that can be used with children (and adults) to facilitate healing. Basic neurobiological trauma, symbolic communication, child centered play therapy, and
directed play therapy activities will be explored.

How to facilitate symbolic communication around trauma using play therapy
Using play therapy with children of different ages (basic)

1:30-3:45 Expressive Arts Play Therapy Supervision for Facilitating Clinical Insight & Supervisee Wellness (2CE)
In this presentation, Dr. Steen will work with supervisors on how to implement play therapy in clinical supervision to facilitate resilience and wellness in supervisees. Additionally, using expressive arts play therapy skills to help supervisees externalize countertransference and other blocks to gain new perspectives; the value of metaphor; and developing supervisor/supervisee clinical awareness will be explored.
Learning Objectives:
Understand ethical implications in building resilience
and wellness in supervision practice with supervisees via expressive arts play therapy in supervision
Externalize counter-transferance and other clinical concerns that can block progress via expressive arts play therapy in order to help the supervisee gain a new perspective and clinical growth
Facilitate the use of metaphor in symbolic communication with supervisees regarding their clinical cases using expressive arts play therapy in supervision
Experience the use of expressive arts play therapy to
consult regarding clinical supervision and /or clinical
awareness.

About the presenter:
Dr. LeAnne Steen is the Director and Founder of the Play Therapy Center for Education & Research at Loyola University New Orleans. Dr. Steen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Counseling(and Department Chair). Dr. Steen developed multiple courses in play therapy at Loyola. She also enjoys presenting extensively on many topics related to play and activity therapy, child-parent relationship therapy, parent consultation, and clinical play therapy consultation. She completed her Ph.D. in Counselor Education at the University of North Texas where she specialized in play therapy, counselor supervision, child-parent relationship
therapy (filial therapy), and activity therapy. Dr. Steen's counselor identity is centered in Play Therapy Education and she has published, presented, consulted, and engaged the local community in play therapy education to the best of
her ability! Dr. Steen managed a private play therapy and play therapy supervision practice for over 20 years before retiring to focus on Play Therapy Education & Consultation, and Caregiver Education.

75% refund will be made if cancellation is more than one week prior to workshop.
50% refund will be made if cancellation is between 2-7 days prior to workshop.
25% refund will be made if less than 48 hour notice is given of a need for cancellation.
