Plastic canvas needlepoint involves using a hand sewing technique to create decorative stitches over a plastic mesh, and one of the great things about it is that you do not need to have any crafting experience to work plastic canvas crafts and it’s easier on your hands and eyes than needlepointing (or cross stitching) on fabric, like you’re probably more used to seeing.
In this class, you’ll learn how to cut out a plastic canvas shape and work the tent stitch aka the continental stitch to create a fun, letter that can be used as an ornament, gift tag or applique (to name a few ideas). You can even string it up on a banner or make multiple to spell out a name.
We’ll explore the basic stitching on a straight and curved shape first, then we’ll move onto the letter.
Supplies that are included: A written pattern with 1 chart (the letter you pick at check out), 1 ball of acrylic yarn (TBD), 7 mesh plastic canvas and a tapestry needle – I will have a handful of metal ones as well as plastic ones for kids, as needed.
Kids 8 and up are welcome, just as long as they can sit for the two hour period of time. Parents are welcome to stay (just note space is limited) or walk around the antique mall during the class.
