Planet Laboratory

Can you imagine a healthier future where people and nature thrive together?
Enter Planet Laboratory, a sci-art-tech adventure where you become a cosmic world-builder! Using colour-coded tiles, piece together a puzzle of local forests, meadows, wetlands and coastlines to shape a living mosaic of habitats. Watch as an overhead satellite-style camera orbits your creation, echoing the way real satellites watch over Earth’s biodiversity; dynamic soundscapes of birdsong, buzzing insects and flowing water simultaneously bring your world to life, and your landscape evolves into your own miniature planet.
Ideally you will be able to attend all three workshops, but it isn't essential.
January 10th 2026: Workshop 1 - World-Building & Storytelling
Create your first planet. Learn the rules of the system and imagine what kinds of life could inhabit your landscapes. Through storytelling and design, explore how forests, wetlands, and meadows coexist and support one another.
February 14th 2026: Workshop 2 - Systems, Balance & Biodiversity
Build on your first world by experimenting with balance and diversity. Arrange habitats, connect ecosystems, and watch how the satellite system responds in real time. Discover how variety and connection keep your world healthy and alive.
March 14th 2026: Workshop 3 - Futures, Change & Collective Planet
Imagine your planet in the future. Respond to change - climate shifts, human choices, new growth - and adapt your landscapes over time. Finally, join all individual worlds into one shared planet, revealing how everything connects.
Age: Aimed at ages 13-18, but open to other ages. Under 14s require a parent or guardian present for the duration of the workshop.
Place: The Art Place is located in Meadows shopping centre.
Time: 13:00 -15:00
