Join us for an evening of a capella music with Pizmon!
Pizmon is the co-ed, pluralistic, Jewish a cappella group of Columbia University, Barnard College, and the Albert A. List College of the Jewish Theological Seminary of America. They strive to spread their love of Jewish music, ritual, and culture to Jewish communities of all denominations around the world. Founded in 1987, Pizmon was the first Jewish a cappella group.
They travel to diverse Jewish communities for weekends during which they fully immerse themselves in their Jewish life. These weekends fund their annual Musical Outreach Initiative, a spring break trip in which they are able to visit communities normally out of their reach during the school year. In these communities, they lead services, perform concerts, engage in community service-oriented work, and sing with residents of assisted living facilities, schools, and congregations.
As a pluralistic group, they have members originating from a variety of Jewish backgrounds. In that pursuit of pluralism, they immerse themselves in new and unfamiliar modes of thought and ritual practice, ensuring that their members’ needs are met while engaging in meaningful exploration. Informed by their identity as Jews and through their love of music, they aim to enhance the religious experiences of Jewish communities and inspire their members.
Over the last 30 years, they have traveled to Chile, Hungary, Poland, Curacao, Venezuela, Panama, Uruguay, Montana, Alabama, Idaho, The Netherlands, and many more!
