About this Event
Maps have long been essential guides to the world — yet they have not always told the truth. For centuries, phantom islands and non-existent coastlines were etched into history, as errors were copied by unsuspecting cartographers. What led to the creation of these imaginary geographies? From shimmering sea mirages and honest blunders to mythical continents and calculated frauds, come and look at these maps and hear the stories behind these unreal places.
These Thursday afternoon sessions run right after the Notes on Tāmaki concert. It’s the perfect midday outing: live music and a rare opportunity to discover the remarkable stories held within our collections.
Notes on Tāmaki concerts: 12.10 to 1 pm
Piringatahi: 2- 3 pm
