“ Pipa π ” Chamber Music Ensemble Concert 弦歌·雅韵——“琵琶 π”室内乐团专场音乐会

To celebrate the 20th anniversary Beijing Wellington sister city relationship, Wellington City Council and China Cultural Centre in Wellington invited a top Beijing cultural group, “Pipa π” Chamber Music Ensemble, to NZ from 7 to 10 May. Organiser agreed to extend this “Pipa π” Chamber Music Ensemble Concert to Palmerston North on Saturday 9th May.
“Pipa π” Chamber Music Ensemble is a specialised chamber music group focused on showcasing the Chinese pipa (a four-stringed, pear-shaped plucked lute) through both traditional and contemporary performances.
The ensemble is directed by Professor Yong Ge, with many young, highly trained members hailing from the China Conservatory of Music.
The group is known for its "exquisite artistry" and "open collaboration," bridging traditional Chinese music with international, modern, and world music styles. A signature performance is the ancient, complex, and martial-style piece "Ambush from All Sides".
