About this Event
Why would God allow me to suffer? This perennial cry of the heart has been a stumbling block for many Christians, non-Christians, and non-believers alike for centuries. The problem of evil has effectively led many to feel punished, abandoned by God, or to deny his existence altogether. In removing God out of this mystery of suffering, we labor in vain, striving to find ways to alleviate the pain that we experience. We seek cures and invent new technologies that comfort us. And when these fail, we numb ourselves, self-medicate, transmit our pain to others, anesthetize - all in an attempt distract ourselves from confronting the reality that we are broken, incomplete, and lacking.
Where is God in all of this? How do we reconcile the reality of suffering with Jesus' promise, "I came that they may have life, and have it to the full."? Join us for an evening of reflection, music, and contemplative prayer as we ponder on the nature human suffering - physical suffering, emotional pain, spiritual dryness - and how Beauty can transform this poverty into joy and glory. Through the witness, testimony, and music of local musicians Ben Batalla and Logan Welsh, this evening provides an opportunity to engage the places of pain in our hearts that normally drive us away from God, and to allow God to speak his love into those places of woundedness.
This event is a unique invitation to be vulnerable with ourselves and with the Body of Christ, to let the Beauty of art and testimony pierce our hearts and speak into our suffering, and to allow Christ to be transform our hearts and bring us closer to wholeness and unity.
