This course is designed to provide you with the knowledge and confidence to work with any and all EI families with mealtime concerns.
About this Event

This course is designed for physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech & feeding therapists, ABA therapists, and special instructors. It will be a 2-hour learning experience designed for clinicians working with children who have feeding goals on their IFSP. The course is designed to provide you with the knowledge and confidence to work with any and all EI families who may be struggling during mealtime.

You will be provided with the understanding of typical feeding development, common conditions that may potentially interfere with feeding (i.e. prematurity, low-tone, ASD, sensory processing disorder, etc.), domain-specific interventions, and family -specific solutions.

We will explore typical food stages, varying textures, and real-life examples of how to incorporate food with play. Video examples will be utilized in order to demonstrate common mealtime mismanagements and how to address them.

Learning Objectives:
After completing the course, clinicians will be able to:

  • Identify at least four early intervention goals for this population that interventionists can work towards
  • Identify four strategies outlined in the presentation to accomplish the goals set.
  • Identify four challenges that would interfere with feeding skills in the EI population.
  • Review cultural aspects that need to be addressed when working on feeding skills for the EI population.
  • Choose from four approaches to teach the caregivers of a child with feeding issues to use during mealtimes.
