The Pickleball Fundraiser

This is your chance to have a good time while supporting a more just and livable future! Join us for a pickleball fundraiser at the Barnes Tennis Center to raise funds for the Sherman Heights Community Center Clean Energy Resilience Project. Whether you're a seasoned pickleball player or a complete novice, we invite you to join us for an afternoon of fun, camaraderie and climate advocacy. Your donation will help the Sherman Heights Community Center declare energy independence and realize solar savings that will be reinvested into the communities of concern the center serves. Come show off your skills on the court and make a difference in our community. Let's come together for a day of games, networking, community building and giving back. We look forward to seeing you there! For questions, please contact Tara: [email protected]

About the Sherman Heights Community Center (the event beneficiary)

The Sherman Heights Community Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization celebrating their 30th year serving the community. They have a mission to foster community through education, cultural enrichment, health promotion and personal development. The community they serve is predominantly Mexican-American with many families facing economic hardship. They serve about 20,000 community members annually, mostly residents in Sherman Heights and the nearby communities of Grant Hill, Logan Heights, Barrio Logan, San Ysidro and other South Bay communities facing environmental injustices.

About the Solar and Storage Project at the Sherman Heights Community Center

The 24.1kW solar power system paired with an energy storage unit is projected to save the Sherman Heights Community Center over $4,500 its first year while reducing CO2 emissions and providing clean energy education to the community. As SDG&E rates rise, the clean energy system is projected to save the center over $113,000 over the next 10 years! These savings will be reinvested into the center, which serves tens of thousands of San Diegans each year. The project is being installed by Aloha Solar Power, an International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) 569 contractor, supporting local union jobs while providing on-the-job training for apprentices. The Clean Energy Resilience project is made possible with financial support from San Diego Community Power's Community Clean Energy Innovation grant in partnership with the San Diego Foundation, a discount from distributor Greentech Renewables San Diego, Hammond Climate Solution Foundation's Solar Moonshot Program grant funded by BQuest Foundation as well as a 0% interest bridge loan for the investment tax credit from BQuest.

About Hammond Climate Solutions Foundation (the event and project organizer)

Hammond Climate Solutions Foundation (HCSF) is a San Diego-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to expedite positive change for a just and livable future. HCSF manages a nationwide solar program, the Solar Moonshot Program, and has a passion of helping local nonprofits in communities of concern go solar. HCSF applied for and secured a Community Clean Energy Innovation grant with the goal of finding a nonprofit that the community wanted to turn into a resilience hub. After doing outreach, the Sherman Heights Community Center was highly recommended as the grantee. HCSF solicited bids and reached out to philanthropic partners to support the project. HCSF is excited to invite you to support this impactful project and amazing organization through this fundraiser.
