Bios:
Matheo Irazabal, pianist, is an active member of the Los Angeles musical community. He is a staff collaborative and rehearsal pianist at the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music and has served as violinist in both UCLA Symphony and Philharmonia as well as the Caltech Orchestra. Additionally, was the previous president of the UCLA Bruin Chamber Musicians which seeks to make chamber music more accessible across the UCLA campus to amateur musicians. He has also performed across countries in Europe, playing both violin and piano in chamber, orchestral, and opera festivals. Notable works he has performed include pieces by Schoenberg, Boulez, Ravel, Rachmaninoff, Brahms, Mozart, and more.
Appointed to the cello section of the San Francisco Symphony for the 2026–27 season, Starla Breshears is a Kohl Scholar studying at the Colburn Academy with Clive Greensmith and previously attended the San Francisco Conservatory of Music Pre-College on a full scholarship. She began cello at age three with Yoshie Muratani and has received additional coaching from Christine Walevska and Sergei Riabtchenko. A prizewinner at the Stulberg and Johansen International Competitions, she has appeared as a soloist with 18 orchestras. Her quartet won First Prize at the 2023 Piero Farulli International Competition and silver at the 2024 Fischoff Competition.
Saren Daghlian is a second-year graduate student at Caltech studying Electrical Engineering. He first began playing the violin at the age of seven at the Pasadena Conservatory of Music studying with Sharon Harman. Up until college, Saren was involved in the chamber music program at the Pasadena Music Conservatory, playing in a trio with his siblings and in various string quartets. He was also concertmaster in the Pasadena Youth Symphony Orchestra program throughout middle school and high school. At Caltech, Saren has continued to remain involved in music performance, both in the Caltech Symphony Orchestra and the Caltech Chamber Music program while studying with Martin Chalifour. He was the orchestra’s concerto competition winner in 2024 and played the Beethoven violin concerto. In his research, Saren develops analog and radio frequency hardware in Caltech’s astronomy department for the DSA, a leading radio survey telescope being built in Southwest Nevada. In his free time, Saren enjoys collecting and restoring e-waste around campus and building radio telescope hardware at home.
