The Brazilian pianist Mario Dias returns to Technopolis 20 for the second time, on Wednesday, October 22, at 20:00, with a recital dedicated to the vibrant and distinctive sound world of Brazilian music. The programme brings together two of the country’s most important composers for piano:- Francisco Mignone: Valsas Brasileiras Nos. 1–12 (Brazilian Waltzes Nos. 1–12)
- Camargo Guarnieri: Ponteios Nos. 1, 3 and 5, and Improviso No. 3
Mignone, one of Brazil’s foremost 20th-century composers, is celebrated for his Valsas Brasileiras, a series of lyrical and charming pieces that combine the intimacy of the waltz with the rhythms and colours of Brazilian popular music. Alongside them, Guarnieri’s Ponteios and Improviso highlight his mastery in blending folkloric elements with classical tradition, creating works full of character and rhythmic vitality.
Mario Dias began his formal training with pianist and organist Jorge Preiss. At the age of 19, he entered the University of Santa Catarina’s Music School, where he studied with Ione Urbano Sant’Anna, later continuing with pianist Alberto Heller. He has appeared in recital in several Brazilian cities, including Itajaí, Joinville, Jaraguá do Sul, Aracaju and Florianópolis. In 2017, he made his debut in Cyprus, where he has since performed on various occasions, sharing his passion for Brazilian piano music with local audiences.
