Chicago-born pianist and bandleader James Austin Jr. makes his debut at Klavierhaus for a splendid evening of jazz piano on Tuesday October 8 supported by Mike Karn on bass and Kayvan Gordon on drums.
A Thelonious Monk Competition semifinalist he has shared stages worldwide with renowned artists and orchestrated acclaimed performances at Carnegie Hall. As a dedicated educator Austin founded the Barry Harris Institute of Jazz and the ensemble Luminescence preserving his mentor’s legacy. His debut album Songs in the Key of Wonder is a soulful tribute to Stevie Wonder and he continues to enthrall audiences with his performances and leadership of the NJPAC Jazz Jam Session series.
