About this Event
We’re thrilled to host a concert by Teddy Otieno, a gifted Kenyan pianist supported by the Rivers Foundation, whose show will also feature young musicians from World Heartbeat Music Academy.
Born and raised in Mathare, one of Nairobi’s largest slums, Teddy Otieno discovered his passion for music in the most challenging of circumstances. Teaching himself piano via the internet, his talent was recognized by Ghetto Classics, a charity providing music education to underprivileged children. Through their support, Teddy earned a scholarship to the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, becoming the first Kenyan pianist to receive such an opportunity in Europe.
With support from The Rivers Foundation and others, he has successfully completed three years of his degree while balancing studies and work. His talent gained national recognition when he became a finalist on Channel 4’s ‘The Piano’, receiving high praise from the legendary Lang Lang. Now in his final year, Teddy’s journey continues, and funds are urgently needed to support his living expenses and tuition. This Charity Concert on 7th March is not just a performance, it’s a chance to support a rising star and the transformative power of music. 🎹✨
