About Dr Jessica Piasecki
Dr Jessica Piasecki is an Associate Professor in Female Physiology at Nottingham Trent University. She completed her PhD in Musculoskeletal Health through Ageing in 2018 and has since continued her research career at NTU. She has progressed her research to focus on female physiology; stemming from the menstrual cycle through adulthood to the menopause and implications on Neuromuscular function. Whilst balancing her research career Dr Piasecki has continued to maintain her athletic status, she has been an accomplished runner most of her life, having first competed for GB at the age of 16. She became an Olympian in 2021, representing Team GB in the marathon, and went on to run 2 hours 22 minutes 25 seconds for the marathon and finishing 12th in the World Championships.
Jessica’s talk will give an oversight into her career progression, with a particular focus on the impact of menstrual cycle on performance and what it takes to compete at the highest level of sport whilst balancing a demanding research career.
