Continuing to build the festival programme around the current exhibition What Presence and Keeping the Stories Alive, we're delighted to have Brian Sweeney come back to the Tolbooth after a number of years to run a gig photography workshop!
You'll work with local punk band Thrown Away in the Tolbooth auditorium - the full live band experience, bursting with photo opportunities! The Workshop
Working with Brian, the photographic workshop will include inception, discussion and execution of an editorial feature around the band. We'll cover planning your shoot, lighting and basic camera techniques.
You will work with the band in set up, sound test and finally their performance in the Tolbooth's Attic venue.
NOTE The workshop will be in two parts
Part One - late afternoon - inception, planning and some technical skills input when Brian will share some of his work. You'll meet the band as they set up for sound check and there is an opportunity to take shots there.
Break
Part Two - you'll cover the gig - working a live performance !
What you should bring
Bring whatever camera gear you have .
As we will be having a break, you should bring a snack and a drink along too.
About Brian
After graduating from a trendy photography school in London early 90s, Sweeney went on to shoot for most music/fashion /style magazines around the globe in the nineties, after spells in London, Reykjavik, and Oslo, he is now based in Glasgow - still shooting lots of famous people and lots of not so famous people .
Channel 4 - Sweeney is a legendary figure in the photographic world, known for his professionalism, enthusiasm and boundless energy, going from one location to the next, fashion shoots, adverts, documentary work, magazine work - his creativity never stops. Sweeney’s been described as the equivalent of Hunter S Thompson with a camera - but only far more talented - while his looks have been described as a grizzled Santa’s helper or a more handsome Billy Bob Thornton, take your pick
