WANTED: Future physicists and engineers!South Dakota Mines is excited to welcome bright minds with promising futures to campus for Physics Camp 2026!
If you want to jumpstart your STEM career, this four-day camp provides an excellent introduction to the Department of Physics at Mines and our world-leading research and development in fields such as particle physics and astronomy. You'll engage in hands-on activities and hear directly from faculty members involved in fascinating research at facilities around the world:
Searching for neutrinos with DUNE – the largest experiment ever assembled – at the Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF) in Lead and Fermi Laboratory in Chicago, and with IceCube at the South Pole;
Looking for dark matter with LZ at the SURF and SuperCDMS at SNOLAB in Canada;
Investigating how nuclear reactions power stars and create chemical elements with CASPAR, the deep underground accelerator at the SURF;
Designing nanomaterials using condensed matter physics.

Camp Details
Dates: June 29–July 2, 2026
Times: Camp will run 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day (Monday-Thursday). Lunch will be provided for campers. Thursday at 1:00 PM we invite parents to come on campus for a cookie reception which will conclude camp.
Audience: Students entering their sophomore, junior, or senior year of high school, as well as recent high school graduates
Cost: $350
