A home is more than walls and roofs. It is where daily life unfolds, where history and culture are made, and identities are shaped.
In cities, homes and neighborhoods are not only shaped through plans and designs; they also evolve over time through the everyday adaptations and practices of the people who live in them, reflecting the community life, and efforts to build more sustainable and resilient places.
Through the “Visions of Home: The Handmade City” competition, UN-Habitat Egypt, in collaboration with Photopia, invites photographers, students, urban practitioners, and community members to share their perspectives on how people shape the places they call home.
📸 Theme: People-led housing and urban innovation — from self-built home improvements to community-driven solutions.
🏆 Why Apply: Selected photographs will be awarded and exhibited at Egypt Urban Week 2026 event (in April) and featured across UN-Habitat platforms.
Egypt Urban Week 2026, organized in the lead-up to the World Urban Forum 13 (WUF13), will bring together national and international partners for discussions and dialogues on sustainable urban development in Egypt.
📸 Submit your vision of home and be part of this national conversation on cities and communities.
📍 Open to: Photographers, urban practitioners, students, and community members across Egypt with professional or basic photography skills.
🗓 Submission deadline: 10 April 2026
