Phillis Symons died on 26th June 1931. Urban legend says we beep in the Mount Victoria tunnel in her memory. For more than 90 years Phillis' plot at Karori Cemetery has been unmarked. Thanks to the dedication of her family and together with generous donations from the public, she now has a headstone to commemorate her, and her mother who rests with her.
To acknowledge the recent unveiling of the headstone, the Friends of Karori Cemetery would like to invite members of the public to visit her final resting place and lay a flower in remembrance. We will also give a brief talk about who Phillis was and her story.
This will take place at 11:00am on Saturday 28th March. We will all meet at The Shelter in the centre of the cemetery and walk to her grave together.
On the day, we will be collecting donations for Wellington Women's Refuge in her memory.
Please no plastic flowers, in order to protect our stream. A cancellation will only be notified on our Facebook page at 10:00am on the day.
