About this Event
On Wednesday, May 8th, the People of the Global Majority Affinity Group of Philanthropy DMV invites members who identify as People of the Global Majority to join us for an insightful evening at the Freedom House Museum in Alexandria, Virginia. This museum, once a complex dedicated to trafficking thousands of Black men, women, and children from 1828 - 1861, honors the lives and experiences of formerly enslaved Black people. We will hear from a local historian about, not only the history of the site, but the history and achievements of Black Americans in Alexandria.
The Freedom House Museum is part of the African American History Division of Alexandria. This division, formed in 2023, will ensure the continued inclusion of Black History in City museums and public programming, as well as advancing the City’s goal of building a welcoming community through equity and inclusion.
