Everything has its time, especially when it comes to nature. Phenology is the study of how time and seasonal change affect plants and animals. To see these changes, observations are collected in one specific area over a period of time. Let’s learn how phenology can give your routine walk in your favorite park a purpose.We will begin our trip with an indoor presentation given by our leader, Clare Walker, who will teach us the process of what to look for and how to collect and document our observations. We will then practice our observational skills on a short hike. Participants will also learn about the USA National Phenology Network and how one can earn a certification as a local phenology leader to assist with citizen science projects. Phenologists favor using the Nature’s Notebook application, which focuses on long-term monitoring, data collection, and community engagement for science and management.
