About this Event
IAS Residential Fellow Dr Robert (Bob) Emmett Alexander delivers a workshop for Postgraduate Researchers (PGRs), fully titled "Grounding the DRR Manifesto and Accord: Identifying and Overcoming Local Challenges and Constraints" -
Power, Prestige & Forgotten Values: A Disaster Studies Manifesto was drafted in 2019 and followed in 2021 by Priorities, Values, and Relationships: A Disaster Studies Accord. These documents explain the call for and proposed global approach to making disaster risk reduction research more inclusive of local communities and researchers and collaborative with their realities, priorities and values at the forefront. Concerns regarding uptake include the proposed global approach not reflecting challenges and constraints to implementation more locally. This workshop will present the key elements of the Manifesto and Accord documents and group postgraduate participants by parts of the world in which they work to identify potential challenges/constraints to implementation there and suggest modifications for revised regional or national versions.
Arrivals from 1:45 pm for a 2:00 pm start.
