Learn how to safely cast objects and pour metal in this special 3-day intensive!
About this Event

Join us for an immersive 3-day casting and small metal pouring workshop designed for adults and mature teens eager to explore the art of mold making and metalwork. In this hands-on experience, participants will learn the fundamentals of creating heat resistant rubber molds and casting small objects in pewter, transforming natural materials such as bones, teeth, shells, coral, acorns, or pinecones into enduring metal keepsakes.

Beginning with selecting and preparing an object, students will build wax sprues, construct mold boxes, and pour rubber molds that cure overnight (complex molds may require an additional day). On the following day, we will demold, create supportive plaster mother molds, and safely pour molten pewter to produce unique metal casts. The workshop concludes with refining and finishing techniques, including filing and soldering a jump ring to transform casts into a wearable charm or pendant if desired.

By the end of the workshop, participants will leave with a foundational understanding of small scale casting processes and the confidence to continue exploring metalwork on their own.

This class is taught by visiting artist-in-residence Zoe Nielsen. Zoe joins us for the month of May. You can learn more about her here!

This class is held in the Art Barn at our Art Farm location at 45 Hawthorne Lane. Directions and parking information will be included in your confirmation email.

Schedule: May 15th, 16th, and 17th from 12-3pm

Registration: If you are excited to sign up for this class, please jump on the opportunity! Please register early if you are able, as it helps us to assure that classes meet their minimums in order to run! If you register more than three weeks before this class begins, a 20% early bird discount will automatically be applied to your ticket at checkout.

A Note on Ticket Pricing: We are offering sliding scale tickets in order to keep our classes accessible to as many community members as possible. There are three price tiers. Sustaining tickets help us continue to invest in programming. Full price tickets cover the costs associated with running classes. Accessibility tickets are priced below what it costs for us to run a class. If the cost of a full price ticket is a hardship, we encourage you to purchase a sliding scale ticket. If you can pay the full price or sustaining price, please choose that option so we can keep providing arts programming to the community.

Tuition assistance is available for Alchemy classes and workshops if finances are a barrier. Apply for tuition assistance here.
