About this Event
Syntax is delighted to once again run this year’s Peterborough Poet Laureate competition to find the next brilliant poet who will fulfil the most unique role our city has to offer. Guaranteed to be a celebration like no other, come join us and revel in the poetic history in the making!
The competition, held annually since 1998, is to find a local poet to hold the honorary title for one year. That means the role is over 25 years old this year and we’re so excited to continue this important tradition with you!
The Peterborough Poet Laureate role is unlike any other, and offers an opportunity to be an ambassador for the city’s poetry community. Previous laureates include Mark Grist, Keely Mills, Malika Speaks, Charley Genever, Clare Currie, Mixxy, and Pete Cox, who all have gone on to become professional working poets. The title will be handed over by our current poet Laureate, Lauren Kendrick.
This year Syntax are very excited to be partnering with University Centre Peterborough, who are supporting the competition and role.
About the final:
The final will take place on Wednesday the 5th February at University Centre Peterborough. Doors open at 6:00pm, with the competition starting promptly at 6:45pm. We aim to finish equally promptly at 9:30pm, but as it’s a live finale, anything could happen!
This year, the first ever Peterborough Poet Laureate, Toby Wood will be hosting the event.
The event is free and open to the public. You are more than welcome to bring your family and friends.
Please book your free tickets, so we know how many people will be in attendance.
