To celebrate the release of the new album Burn The Ration Books Of Love, Peter Alexander Jobson visits Kingston to play an in-store set.
Recorded at hishome studio and produced byBen Christophers, the album is an extraordinary collection that blends genres as diverse as country- favoured psychedelia and cocktail jazz with the spirit of the Northern variety circuit. His vocals answer the question: what ifSerge Gainsbourghad been born in the North East of England? Inspirations includeLeonard Cohen, Tom WaitsandScott Walker, blues and country legends likeRobert JohnsonandHank Williams, and Northern entertainers of days past likeLes Dawsonand the greatJake Thackray.
Jobson made his name as bass guitarist and keyboard player inI Am Kloot. After six albums and 16 successful years together the cult trio of Jobson, drummer Andy Hargreaves and singer/ guitarist John Bramwell broke up after a fnal triumphant performance at the Royal Festival Hall as part of the 2016 Meltdown Festival on London's South Bank. I Am Klootwere noted for their distinctive sound, the jazzy swing of Jobson and built a fervent following both in the UK and across Europe, culminating in a Mercury Music Prize nomination for their lavish ffth album, 'Sky At Night' - produced byElbow's Guy Garvey and Craig Potter in 2010.
Heavily autobiographical in inspiration, the songs on 'Burn The Ration Books Of Love' are deeply rooted in Jobson's lived experience, and in his geographical roots in Northumberland, with its wild, windswept coastline, rugged hills and moors, and extensive agricultural farmland where his family have worked the land for generations.
-
In-store Grade B. Performance expected to start shortly after time shown.
Priority will be given to anyone who orders a copy of 'Burn The Ration Books Of Love' from us. If there's space on the day for more people, we'll let you know!
