Pete "Pops" Escovedo's life is truly a story about passion, dedication, and success in the world of music.
Born in Pittsburg, CA, July 13th, 1935, he began both his visual art and musical journey while attending high school in Oakland, CA. At the age of sixteen, he began playing the saxophone and then discovered percussion which became his love of rhythm and his dream of playing Latin Jazz music.
His musical journey with his brothers, forming the Escovedo Band and later Azteca, showcased his diversity in playing. His time with Santana was a significant milestone, but it was his determination to create his own “Unique Sound” that led too "The Pete Escovedo Orchestra." This decision was pivotal in establishing him as a globally recognized musician. His achievements are numerous, just to name a few including prestigious accolades like the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, the Guitar Center Music Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award, Grammy Nomination for Mr E Album and The official Pete Escovedo day.

It might come as a pleasant surprise to many for his expression of his life on canvas. He has a vast collection of his own paintings dating back from 1951. Pete has also written an autobiography that tells his life story of being a musician, touring with the greatest musicians, having a family, and also his time in a foster home. These challenges and triumphs have been implemented in his music and paintings.

Conveniently located near Jack London Square, with easy parking, Studios Eleven regularly participates in Oakland Art Murmur/ First Fridays, and has gallery shows featuring Studios 11 artists or guest artists.
