December 8th & 17thCraft a beautiful and functional piece of pottery in our Hand-Built Clay Butter Dish class. This engaging two-part workshop is designed for all skill levels, offering a rewarding experience as you shape a practical item for your home.
In the first session, you'll learn the fundamental techniques of slab construction and hand-building to create your own unique butter dish. You will form the base, the lid, and the handle, focusing on achieving a snug fit and an aesthetic shape. You have the freedom to design a classic rectangular dish, a round one, or something completely imaginative, resulting in two distinct pieces creating a butter dish that are truly your own. Our instructor will guide you step-by-step through the process, ensuring you gain the skills needed to complete your forms. After the session, your pieces will be bisque-fired in the kiln, transforming them into durable ceramic and preparing them for the next stage.
In the second session, you'll return to paint and glaze your fired butter dishes. We will introduce you to various glazing techniques, and you'll choose from a wide array of vibrant colors and sophisticated matte or glossy glazes. This is where you bring your personal style to life, whether you opt for a simple, elegant solid color, a playful, patterned design, or a detailed, painted scene. Once you're finished, your pieces will undergo a final glaze firing in the kiln, which will bring out the full depth of the colors and give your butter dishes their food-safe, glossy, or satin finish. You will be notified when your finished, ready-to-use pieces are ready for pick-up.
