Due to demand, FOMO English Language Cinema is extending its Persian Film Fest one more week. This second chapter continues our focus on Iranian cinema as a tool of observation, resistance and self examination. Where last week traced the emergence of the Iranian New Wave, this program looks more closely at how those ideas deepen under pressure, censorship, and exile.
Asghar Farhadi's THE SALESMAN and Mohammad Rasoulof's THERE IS NO EVIL examine moral compromise inside tightly controlled social systems. Jafar Panahi's IT WAS JUST AN ACCIDENT shows how fear and hesitation shape everyday behavior under surveillance. Ali Abbasi's HOLY SPIDER confronts religious violence and misogyny head on, exposing how extremism is protected and excused.
We return to Abbas Kiarostami with THROUGH THE OLIVE TREES and TASTE OF CHERRY, films that reveal how tradition, class, and expectation shape everyday life and interpersonal relationships. Mehrjui's THE COW reminds us where it all began. Marjane Satrapi's PERSEPOLIS brings the revolution and its aftermath into personal focus.
Last week's film shorts proved exceptionally popular so I'm showing four new ones this week.
The week closes with SALAAM CINEMA and CINEMA CINEMA, two films that turn the camera back on audiences and ask who cinema belongs to.
This week is NOT a retrospective. These films speak directly to life in Iran now and celebrate the strength and bravery of everyday, ordinary citizens.
