We’re excited to be offering a weekend for families of all shapes and sizes to join us for an immersive weekend of permaculture fun and learning. Camping out under the stars, in the heart of the beautiful Channon village.
It will be an inspiring couple of days and nights full of play and exploration, mixed in with chances for deeper learning of applied permaculture practices. There will also be plenty of time for relaxing fire side chats, wild craft and creek swims. Most importantly we’ll be building tribe and creating connections with like-minded families.
What to Expect:
This will be a gentle, family centred introduction, whether you know anything about permaculture or not. We will learn through play and exploration. We will also be learning by experincing many of the existing eco practices we have here at Djaning. It’s a weekend for the kids, with some excellent learning for the adults too!
Over the course of the weekend we will learn about the importance of soil, water, food, forests, play and stillness. We will also learn how to design our very own family friendly, foodie-fun landscape!
Bring your own breakfast and lunch and expect delicious family fireside dinners (included).
As a treat we will have a local master weaver, Vanessa Morris on site over the weekend. She will show us the ins and outs of the finer details of her beautiful craft. She will also share her skills in fibre foraging, flint and steel, and hand drill fire making.
The Venue:
We have been living on Widjabul/waibul land in the Bundjalung nation for the past six years this February. Beginning our journey with a bare paddock we have designed our way to our now thriving little nook. We are completely off grid, living the simple life, and we now feel this is a journey worth sharing. The land is 25 acres in size within close proximity to the Channon village, with the local shop and pub a 5 minute walk away. Beautiful Terania creek forms the border between Djaning and the village with plenty of spots for camping, swimming, fishing and exploring.
We have experimented with various styles and techniques in our bid to transition to the more beautiful world our hearts know is possible. We love sharing this journey with our three children and hope to inspire other families looking toward a similar path. Some of the systems we have delved into at Djaning include; water harvesting and filtration, multi-strata agroforestry, forest gardening, organic gardening, holistic animal husbandry, recycled building, earthworks, composting toilets and associated humanure nutrient cycling, home schooling/un-schooling…

Your facilitators:
Laura Whitley and Fionn Quinlan have a combined experience in the field of eduation of over 30 years. Both have all necessary qualifications and checks. See our About page to read more about the facilitators and operators at Djaning.
