About this Event

If you’ve ever wanted to read your work aloud with more confidence — or if you’ve never dared read in front of anyone at all — this is the workshop for you. Together with City of Poets and Stravaig Creative Arts, you’ll explore how to use a microphone properly, how to move comfortably on stage, how to hold the room’s attention, and how to let your voice carry your poem forward. It’s warm, supportive, and designed for people who want to grow at their own pace. You’ll practise in front of a small, encouraging group, and leave feeling a little braver than when you walked in.

About Stravaig

Stravaig Creative Arts specialises in inclusive, confidence-building creative practice, particularly around performance and participation. Their work focuses on meeting people where they are, removing barriers, and creating environments where folk can try new things safely. Partnering with City of Poets, they help bridge the gap between writing on the page and sharing work aloud with care and confidence.

This event runs as part of City of Poets Takeover of Knightswood Pavillion as they make February the COOLEST month.

To see the full programme of events, see our Eventbrite profile page.

City of Poets members receive discounts on a wide number of events throughout the year. Membership is free and open to anyone with a connection to Glasgow. See our website to sign up.

About February is the COOLEST month

Often called the cruelest month, February, with its dark nights, cold mornings, and that slow drag toward Spring. (unlike poet T S ELIOT who famously declared it to be April…)

For four weekends, the Pavilion in Knightswood Park becomes a hub for storytelling, sharing, learning, laughing, swapping, reading, crafting, and meeting new people who love words just as much as you do.

Whether you’ve been writing for years, just starting out, or simply enjoy being surrounded by creative energy, you’re welcome here.
