‘AS FAR AS WE KNOW’ is an audio-visual, musical, and theatrical performance by PINSLEEP (Aga Olek). It’s built around Aga’s original libretto.
For this production, PINSLEEP is joined by an ensemble of singers on a pop-experimental journey into a speculative future, where humanity’s drive for progress is put to the test of time.
The work draws inspiration from authors James Lovelock (Novacene) and E. M. Forster (The Machine Stops), and asks (but doesn’t answer) some urgent questions:
• Will technological progress eventually erase culture as we know it?
• What will coexistence between people and machine intelligence look like in the future?
• What makes us human?
As PINSLEEP, Aga’s practice is rooted in the exploration of musical and philosophical relationships between people and technology. She works across performance, production, and composition and connects classical roots with pop and contemporary influences – drawing on the work of Holly Herndon, Gazelle Twin, NYX choir, Kate Bush, J. S. Bach and Lady Gaga.
For this production, Aga has collaborated with dramaturg Kristýna Ilek and filmmaker Styliani Skiadopoulou. It is kindly supported by staff of SARC and Brian Friel Theatre at Queen's University Belfast.
Feel something primal. Feel something primitive. And feel good about it.
