About this Event
Perfect Arrangement presented by Moxie TheatreWorks
It's 1950 and new colors are being added to the Red Scare. Perfect Arrangement by Topher Payne is a theatrical production that blends razor-sharp wit with poignant social commentary in this clever, captivating play. Set in 1950 during the height of the Lavender Scare, the story follows Bob and Norma, two U.S. State Department employees who, to avoid suspicion, have created a seemingly “perfect” façade... They are each married to the other’s partner, in houses connected by a closet, forming two ideal heterosexual marriages in the eyes of the outside world.
When tasked with helping to root out “sexual deviants” in the government workforce, Bob and Norma find themselves trapped in an impossible moral dilemma. Their secret world teeters on the edge as the campaign they enforce begins to target their own identities.
Inspired by actual historical events, Payne’s play uses the familiar style of a 1950s sitcom to explore themes of identity, loyalty, and the cost of conformity.
With its mix of laughs, love, and suspense, Perfect Arrangement is both a hilarious farce and a thought-provoking examination of what it takes to live—and love—honestly in a time where it is nearly impossible to do so.
