About this Event
A collaboration between Lee Young and me (Eldon Bradfield), the event will open with an exhibition of prints of Ernest Bloch’s photographs, followed by an-hour long performance. Spanning the entirety of Bloch’s career, the concert will culminate in the premiere of Eldon’s arrangement of Poems of the Sea for string quartet, flute, and narrator. Guests will be welcome to view the pictures during and after the performance.
Expect some amazingly strange and beautiful music; Bloch’s output doesn’t fit neatly into one thread of 20th-century composition, exploring everything from Impressionism to Baroque and folk inspirations. All the pieces in this concert have very few recordings and are hard to find in print, and recordings of the concert will be contributed to the International Ernest Bloch Society’s database of recordings in preparation for their 2030 celebration of Bloch’s 150th birthday. I’m so excited to bring this project to life for y’all as part of my enduring obsession with this composer.
