Rose Thorne
Prairie songstress Rose Thorne was born in South Dakota in 1896 and died in Oregon in 1950.
A searcher and a dreamer, Rose Thorne wrote dozens of songs of prairie life, hope, loneliness & love in the 1920’s, 30’s & 40’s.
Towards the end of her life all of her handwritten music, along with all her paintings and poetry were believed to be forever lost in a fire — a fire intentionally set!
After her son Charlie Wollesen died in 2014, a stack of her handwritten music charts were found among letters she had sent to him in 1944.
The surviving charts eventually made their way to a grandson she never knew - Kenny Wollesen - by way of the man who lit the match!
Kenny Wollesen arranged her music and assembled a band of his dear friends for a very special night of Rose Thorne’s music.
Please come hear Rose Thorne’s songs come alive again after 100 years on April 18th at the WAH Center !
