Peak China? Assessing the Future of U.S.-China Competition

As China navigates a period of economic deceleration with potential global ripple effects, the implications for U.S.-China relations and broader geopolitical stability have become increasingly complex.

To provide insights into this critical topic, the Baker Institute will host the Rice chapter of the Alexander Hamilton Society for a discussion with Dan Blumenthal, a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute and noted expert on Chinese grand strategy and U.S.-China relations. The conversation will be moderated by Baker Institute Director David M. Satterfield. They will address the effects of China’s economic downturn on the U.S.-China great power competition in the 21st century. Blumenthal, author of “The China Nightmare: The Grand Ambitions of a Decaying State” and “An Awkward Embrace: The United States and China in the 21st Century,” brings a wealth of knowledge on China’s ambitions and the challenges shaping the U.S.-China relationship.
