Own the HOU is a groundbreaking initiative dedicated to bridging the homeownership gap for people of color (Members of the Black, Hispanic, Indigenous, and Asian communities) in Houston and Harris County. Our mission is to support 5,000 new households of color in achieving their dream of homeownership while assisting existing homeowners of color in preserving their cherished homes by the end of 2028.Own the HOU is an initiative that brings together key stakeholders and organizations committed to fostering equitable homeownership opportunities in our community.
Fifth Ward Community Redevelopment Corporation leads three programs under the Own the HOU collaboration:
•Earned Equity Builder
•Youth Financial Education
•Young Professional Homeownership Network - This program connects young BIPOC professionals with experienced "ambassadors" and housing industry experts who guide them through the home-buying journey.
Join us for our 2nd annual mixer on November 20th, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. Participants will have the opportunity to select two tables to attend. Each table will feature an industry professional and a young professional who has been through the homeownership process. Participants will have the opportunity to have authentic conversations about homeownership and ask questions they may have.
New this year: Our housing counselors will be onsite, and there will be an opportunity for participants to have one-on-one sessions with our housing counselors.
