Jehovah’s Witnesses in New Zealand will have an international convention at Eden Park, Auckland, New Zealand.Human rights activist and stand-up comedian Jonas Skogstroll is coming from Norway to lead a peaceful demonstration for the rights of children growing up in “religious high-control groups” like the Jehovah’s Witnesses.
It’s expected that survivors from other high-control groups, such as LDS, Gloriavale, Centerpoint, and evangelical groups, will also be there to show their support for the Jehovah’s Witness children.
Since Jehovah’s Witnesses practice strict shunning, many members feel trapped in the religion. If leaving the religion makes you lose your family, you do not truly have the option to leave.
Norwegian authorities have ruled that such emotional blackmail constitutes a human rights violation.
