His body is depicted as the brilliant blue light of lapis lazuli : in his left hand he holds an alms bowl containing myrobalan fruit representing the "king of medicines" and in his right hand he holds the stem of the myrobalan plant symbolising healing. The Medicine Buddha's deep compassion is dedicated continuously to dispel the darkness of suffering and disease and to free all sentient beings from physical and mental pain.
