Grab your branch trimmers, loppers, shears, saws and/or pruners to tackle the job (gloves too!). It's time for another tidying up of the Plumlee Trails at Pawnee Prairie! As we have in the past, we are going to team up together for a workday and have a great time doing what Irene Plumlee diligently did for over 40 years every single time she rode the park (which was at least 4 days/week!). Her creation and maintenance of the trails for equestrian and pedestrian use became the park we know today. We will scatter out all over the park (the north half of the park could use more attention) and get to trimming overgrowth - don't forget those pesky cedar trees! If you see a trail that might be closing off, let's open it back up. If you see a trail getting dangerous, see if you can reroute the trail for safety, i.e. further away from the riverbank, around a dangerous hole or creek crossing, etc. Trim as you go and/or tackle a spot. (The park maintenance dpt. will be tackling larger downed trees requiring heavier equipment.)
Picking up trash along the way is also encouraged, especially for those walking.
Please share the event as well!
While we always count on people throughout the year to trim as they go to keep overgrowth at bay, this is a great day to work as a group! Feel free to come early and/or late to work as well.
Please report the number of people in your group and the hours worked so we can have record of the volunteer time put in! Comment on the event page or send a message to FB page with this information. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!
