Join us at The Book Tavern for a special book signing with educator, author, and cultural scholar Dr. André Benito Mountain, celebrating his book Pawn Takes Rook: Urban Mosaic Pedagogy.Blending personal narrative, leadership reflection, and cultural critique, Pawn Takes Rook traces Mountain’s journey from student to classroom teacher, school leader, and nationally recognized voice on arts-based and culturally responsive education. Grounded in lived experience, the book introduces Urban Mosaic Pedagogy, a framework that centers creativity, identity, and community as essential components of meaningful learning.
Beyond his work as an author, Dr. Mountain is an in-demand speaker and lecturer whose work bridges education, culture, and the arts. He has lectured at Columbia University and internationally with the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance, including its campuses in London, Leeds, and Liverpool. He also serves as Director of Education for The Hip Hop Museum, where he leads initiatives focused on literacy, history, youth voice, and cultural preservation.
This event offers readers an opportunity to meet the author, learn more about the ideas behind the book, and have copies personally signed. Educators, artists, students, and community members interested in leadership, storytelling, and the intersection of culture and education are especially encouraged to attend.
